Chicago Nissan Dealer Looks to the Future, While Honoring the Past

“The only thing new in the world is the history you do not know.”- Harry S. Truman

History tends to repeat itself and it is from this history that we must learn and grow.  It is important to look back on this history, especially if you are not familiar with it.  Everything has a history. The Nissan Skyline is no exception to this rule.

Chicago Nissan history buffs know that the Skyline started out back in 1969 and has evolved into the present day Nissan R35.  Let’s take it back a couple of generations ago to 1995, when the R33 was born.

Chicago GT-R dealerThe V.spec model weighed heavier, had the newer ATTESA E-TS Pro all wheel drive system, obtained a four wheel independent channel anti-lock braking system,  and had a sportier suspension than the base model GT-R.  At the same time, the R33 GT-R V.spec N1 model was released.  It was made lighter, removing several features and was given the slightly revised R33 N1 engine.

In 1999, the R34 was born.  Two models, the Skyline GT-R and GT-R V.spec, were released in this year, along with a R34 N1 model.  Another special model was also released, called the M-spec, which added the “M” for the chief engineer of Nissan, Mizuno.   New features of the R34 included a shorter length from front to rear, a reduced front overhang, glossy red valve covers, and a 5.8” LCD multifunction display on the dashboard.

The V.spec ll appeared in 2000.  This model had stiffer suspension, larger rear brake rotors, a carbon fiber hood, an iridium center console, aluminum pedals, black cloth upholstered seats, and white turn lenses.

In 2002, the final production model of the R34 was made.  The two models were called the Skyline GT-R V.spec ll Nür and the Skyline GT-R M-spec Nür.  The Nür stood from the famous German Nürburgring racetrack where the Skyline was developed.  They included an improved engine, larger turbochargers, steel blades, a different color of stitching on the interior trim, gold valve covers, and the speedometer reaching 186m/h.
